John Muir Birthday/Earth Day Celebration Set For April 21

The John Muir Historic Site will feature a day-long party with live music, food, education and fun.

Tap into your inner Muir at the John Muir Birthday–Earth DayΒ Celebration on Saturday, April 21st at the John Muir National Historic SiteΒ in Martinez.

Admission and parking are free to this regional event, whichΒ includes exhibits and fun activities for all ages. Participants will enjoyΒ live entertainment, self-guided tours of the 1882 Victorian Muir home, aΒ nature walk with Doc Hale and National Park Service Junior RangerΒ activities.

The Keynote Speaker is Rona Zollinger, co-founder of the NewΒ Leaf: A Sustainable Living Collaborative in the Martinez Unified SchoolΒ District.

John Muir’s message of conservation is felt around the world, and it was atΒ his Martinez home where he penned many of his influential works.

"Visitors will find a lot that’s new at the park, including a freshlyΒ renovated Visitor Center, displays of original documents, improvements toΒ the California Native Plant Garden and an exhibit about Muir as a giftedΒ inventor. In addition to learning more about John Muir’s life and his roleΒ in the conservation of our natural treasures, visitors will have fun whileΒ discovering what they can do to protect the earth,” said John Muir NHSΒ General Superintendent Tom Leatherman.

The Celebration includes live music played by Spinning Wheel, The HopefulΒ Romantics, Extended Roots and Cal Revels. Two silent auctions will offer aΒ variety of items, and the proceeds will benefit the John Muir Association,Β which is hosting the event in partnership with the National Park Service.

Food and beverages will be available for purchase.

Free shuttleΒ transportation will be provided from these parking areas, but we encourageΒ travel on public transportation.
