Man Dies After Fight With Resident After Break-In: Martinez PD

Martinez police are investigating an alleged home invasion that left the reported intruder dead early Saturday morning.

MARTINEZ, CA — Martinez police are investigating an alleged home invasion that left the reported intruder dead early Saturday morning.

Police officers were called to Hale Court at about 4:45 a.m. after receiving a report from someone who heard their neighbor shout that there was an "intruder" at the neighbor's residence, according to a press release from the Martinez Police Department.

After arriving at the residence, officers were told by the resident that a man who the resident was familiar with broke in and attacked him. The man who allegedly broke into the residence was taken to a hospital with injuries suffered in a fight with the resident. He died from those injuries at the hospital, police said.

The Martinez Police Investigations Bureau is investigating the death. Police said their understanding of the circumstances surrounding the death could change as more details are uncovered. The resident is cooperating with the investigation, according to the police department.
