Man Struck And Killed In I-80 Hit-And-Run Is Identified
The Fairfield man - originally described as a Martinez resident - was reportedly checking the tire of his Toyota on the shoulder of I-80.

PINOLE - A man fatally struck early Sunday on Interstate Highway 80 in Pinole by a driver who was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence was identified today by the Contra Costa County coroner’s office as 28-year-old Jose Daza Jr.
The Fairfield man - originally described as a Martinez resident - was reportedly checking the tire of his Toyota Corolla on the shoulder of Interstate Highway 80 when 31-year-old Oakland resident Keri Cache hit him just after midnight near Pinole Valley Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Cache was later arrested on suspicion of DUI causing the loss of life, felony hit-and-run causing the loss of life, and driving with a suspended license.
An off-duty Berkeley police officer spotted Cache allegedly driving recklessly in a 2003 Chevrolet Malibu on the highway’s eastbound lanes before hitting the Toyota.

The officer continued to follow the Malibu as it then left the freeway, did “circles” around a Safeway parking lot, ran a red light, and got back onto the highway, according to the CHP.
Cache was later pulled over and arrested near Nut Tree Parkway in Vacaville.
She was booked into the Martinez Detention Facility.
