WALNUT CREEK, CA — An early-morning fire in Walnut Creek has left six people without shelter for the holiday.

The fire broke out this morning in the garage of a home in the 2100 block of Stewart Avenue in the southern part of Walnut Creek.

Contra Costa County Fire Protection District crews responded to the fire at 6:37 a.m.

Crews found heavy smoke and flames coming from a home when they arrived, fire district spokesperson Lauren Ono told reporters.

Firefighters knocked down the fire shortly before 7 a.m., according to reports.

The roads are open again in the area.
