Man Sues Martinez, Claims Officer Attacked Him
The civil rights suit alleges the man suffered injuries that required surgery, hospitalization and physical therapy.
MARTINEZ, CA — A federal lawsuit filed by a California man against Martinez claims a police officer beat him and broke his ribs while he was waiting for a train at the Amtrak station, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.
In the civil rights suit obtained by the Chronicle, Todd Wilkins alleged an unidentified officer grabbed him, took him to the ground and beat him in an unprovoked attack on April 1, 2023. The suit alleges the officer only let up when a witness intervened to ask what he was doing.
According to the Chronicle, the filing said Wilkins' injuries included broken ribs and a broken elbow and were severe enough to require emergency surgery, a one-week hospital stay and weeks of physical therapy.
