Martinez Car Crash Results in Gas Leak, Road Closures
A driver accidentally put her vehicle into drive and struck a gas meter, which resulted in the leak, police say.

MARTINEZ, CA -- All affected roads and areas have now reopened after a gas leak shut down two blocks in Martinez the afternoon of Jan. 29, police said.
At about 2 p.m. yesterday, police received a report of a crash in the 600 block of Ward Street. According to police, the driver accidentally put her vehicle into drive and struck a gas meter, which resulted in the leak.
PG&E crews struggled to shut off the gas at the source, and called in a digging crew to dig up and pinch the gas line. The 600 and 700 blocks of Main Street were evacuated while crews worked.

At 3:30 p.m., the leak was capped and most areas were reopened except for the 600 block of Main Street and Alhambra Plaza where crews were still working. By 8 p.m., all roads and areas were reopened.
According to police, the driver who struck the gas meter was evaluated and found not to be intoxicated. No injuries were reported, police said.
