MARTINEZ, CA — The Martinez City Council is scheduled to select a new city manager during a special closed-session meeting Wednesday night. The new city manager will succeed Brad Kilger, who announced in July his intention to retire at the end of 2018. He worked for the city for 2 1/2 years.

Before coming to Martinez, Kilger had been city manager of Benicia, and of Ceres and Yucca Valley before that.

Under Kilger, Martinez filled several key jobs that had long been vacant, and ushered in technological improvements.

Martinez has not enjoyed stability in the top city administrator's spot in recent years; Kilger's predecessor, Rob Braulik, left after serving only seven months. Since September 2013, Martinez has had five city managers.

Kilger made a $215,000 annual base salary, plus benefits.
