Martinez Honors Those Who Serve
Memorial Day ceremony celebrated the men and women in military service.
A chilly wind blew at the corner of Alhambra Avenue and Berrellsa Street, but the hearts of those attending Monday's Memorial Day service were warm with gratitude for the men and women who served their country in the armed forces.
Veteran's Commission chairman Thomas Zamaria served as the master of ceremonies and Mayor Rob Schroder made some remarks. The event was dedicated to the memory of World War II veteran and longtime Martinez resident Perry Faria, who died this year.
Martinez Patch was there to capture the event, including the singing of the national anthem by Deborah Zamaria, and the reading of an anonymous poem. Retired VA nurse practitioner Kathleen Clancy, who was a nurse in the Korean conflict, read"Let Them In, Peter."
