Newly Renovated Library Draws Rave Reviews
A day-long celebration on Aug. 20 saw hundreds of people flock to the Martinez Library to see what was new.
Skylights. An elevator. Self-check-out. New paint. These are just a few of the new amenities that the Martinez Library boasts, and which hundreds of residents got to see on Aug. 20, as the libary opened its doors to the public for the first time since 2010.
The day-long celebration featured cake, live music, speeches and a book sale. The project, which was funded through the 2008 Measure H bond, cost $2 million.
There is, incidentally, also room for thousands of more books, a feature that should come as a great relief for residents who have long complained about the limited resources at the library, which was constructed in 1941 in the Art Deco style. The building is on the National Register of Historic Places.
