Rash of Car Thefts Hits Martinez

More than a half dozen cars stolen in the past few weeks.

It's not exactly a crime spree, but more than the usual number of cars have been stolen from Martinez citizens over the past few weeks, at the same time cars stolen from Vallejo have been recovered here.Β

Eight cars have been stolen since March 24 from different parts of town. In at least two incidents, the stolen cars have been recovered. No one area of town seems to be targeted.

"We have been hit in a couple areas over the past few weeks," said Police Chief Gary Peterson. "We have recovered two stolen cars on different days that were taken from Vallejo, so I assume we have someone" who is stealing cars in both cities, he said.
