Services Planned For 2 Drivers Killed In Highway 4 Crash

An 18-year-old woman died at the scene near Center Street. The second driver, a 49-year-old father of four, died the next day at a hospital.

MARTINEZ, CA — Another person has died from injuries suffered in a two-car collision last Wednesday night on state Highway 4 in Martinez.

Authorities identified Diana Zuniga, 18, of San Pablo, as the driver who died at the scene of the crash around 10:45 p.m. Wednesday, May 10, just east of Center Street.

Zuniga was driving a gray Honda Civic westbound on Highway 4 and the driver of a white Toyota Corolla — identified as Jeremiah Smeby, 49, of Antioch — was also traveling westbound when, according to the California Highway Patrol, the Honda crashed into the Toyota.

Diana Zuniga Had 'Many Dreams To Fulfill'

Services are planned June 10 for Zuniga, according to a GoFundMe page. By late Monday night, more than $8,400 in donations had been made to help Maria Zuniga provide her daughter a holy burial.

"She was only 18 years old with a whole life ahead of her and many dreams to fulfill, but God had other plans for her," Zuniga wrote on the verified GoFundMe page in memory of Diana.

Jeremiah Smeby, Father Of Four

Smeby, a father of four, was surrounded by loved ones when he was taken off life support the morning after the crash, according to a GoFundMe page.

By Monday night, more than $5,500 in donations were made to help his family pay for services and everything else that comes with this unexpected tragedy, friend Elise Alamarz wrote on a GoFundMe page.

"Jeremiah was a loving person who enjoyed spending time with his family and friends," Almaraz wrote. "He was the first one we would call when we needed help with our cars and always went out of his way to lend a helping hand. He was an excellent cook, movie buff, and had the most unique music taste. He was a loving father, son, brother, and friend. Truly an extraordinary man. He is survived by his two daughters Naomi and Krisanna and his sons Edwin and Isaac."
