Teenager Killed In Hit-And-Run In Pittsburg: Police

The 17-year-old girl was walking within a fully marked crosswalk when she was struck by a car, police said.

PITTSBURG, CA — The Pittsburg Police Department was working to find the driver who fatally hit a teenager with a car Tuesday night.

The crash was reported shortly before 7:15 p.m. Tuesday at Stoneman Avenue and Briarcliff Drive. Officers responded to find a 17-year-old girl lying in the street suffering from injuries consistent with being struck by a vehicle, Pittsburg police said.

The car involved in the collision left the area and was not seen by the person who called 911, police said.

Officers immediately provided medical aid to the teenager until she was taken by medical staff to an area hospital where she died from her injuries, police said.

The fatal collision investigation team determined the girl was walking northbound across Stoneman Avenue from Briarcliff Drive and was headed to Golden Gate School. As she crossed into the westbound lanes of traffic for Stoneman Avenue, the vehicle struck her.

The teenager was walking within the fully marked crosswalk in the intersection, providing her the right of way to cross the street, police said.

The driver left the scene, headed westbound on Stoneman Avenue and is wanted for felony hit and run, police said.

Investigators were working to identify the car and driver who is responsible.
