Ten-Year Anniversary Of The 9/11 Attacks This Sunday

The city, fire district and school district are all commemorating one of the darkest days in American history.

Two twisted, torn pieces of rusted metal -- steel beams that were once part of the fallen Twin Towers -- stand a lonely watch at the Martinez Amtrak Station as residents and visitors pause daily to remember the horrific events a continent away. The monument, which was obtained in partnership between the city and a local firefighter's union, is the site each Sept. 11 of a memorial service.

This Sunday will mark the 10-year anniversary of the tragic attacks on the United States.  The Martinez Police Department, along with Contra Costa County Consolidated Fire, will remember the victims of September 11, 2001 with a remembrance at the 9/11 Memorial located at the Martinez Amtrak Station, 601 Martina Vista Avenue.   The event will begin at 8 a.m. and the public is encouraged to attend.

“We hope you will join us to remember the fallen, to embrace those who lost their loved ones, and to ensure that we never forget the events of September 11, 2001,” said Police Captain Eric Ghisletta.
