The Return of the Cinco List

It's MONDAY, April 18, 2011. Yes, I told you Five Things was going away and being replaced with a daily column. Consider that an April Fools joke. Ha ha. Now that we've shared a laugh together, let me just say that Five Things is returning because

1. It's a good format for starting the day, the week, etc.;
2. It's something you can count on in the morning (unlike a daily column, at least from me);
3. Five is a nice number, don't you think?;
4. At least one reader said he would miss it (here you go, Mr. Polatta); and
5. The guy one rung up my work food chain suggested maybe I should bring it back. "Ok," I explained.

So back it is, and I for one am glad to see it here. It feels comfortable, like a pair of jeans you shouldn't wear to work because they're too worn but you do anyway because that's who you are. Anyway, let's begin:

1. Rain is forecast all day. Be so advised. Umbrella weather is still upon us.
2. Today is the final day to file your tax return. Expect long lines at the post office, and if you use the Alhambra Avenue branch, that means a long line of cars, so plan accordingly. If you feel like you're not ready to file yet, perhaps you should consider filing an extension. But be advised, the extension is only for filing. If you think you're going to owe money, you need to make a payment today, or be liable for penalties and interest. 
3. Come meet the Bunny at the today at 4 p.m. Remember that the library is temporarily located in the old train station at the end of Ferry Street. The bunny will be on hand, along with bunny stories, face painting, and other spring like activities. It's free and it's open to everyone.
4. If you're wondering about the state of the Martinez  beavers, check out Heidi Perryman's latest blog entry and feel better about the fact that it's Monday. Say what you will about those creek dwelling critters, they model tenacity and fortitude in ways we can all learn from.
5. Finally, it's the monthly Jazz Jam at tonight. If you haven't been to this particular jam, it's worth a visit. The house band is world class, and the players are generally astounding, too. Well worth the $3 admission price.
