Vigil For Martinez Student Killed In Crash
BREAKING: Community members were planning to gather at 7 p.m. tonight at Martinez Junior High School.

MARTINEZ, CA β A vigil is planned Friday evening at Martinez Junior High School to remember a student who was killed in a car crash Wednesday. Hakim Cooper, a seventh grade student at the school, died in the
crash, according to an email sent to the Martinez Unified School District community by Superintendent CJ Cammack.
Community members are planning to gather at the school at 1600 Court St. this evening with candles to remember Hakim, according to social media posts.
"We are a tight community in Martinez Unified, and I wanted to be sure our employees and our parents were provided this information so they may prepare to support our youth in processing the death of a classmate, friend or fellow student," Cammack said in the email.

Another Martinez school district student died in a car crash in June. Alma Aguilar Alvarez was a third grade student at John Swett Elementary School.
