Wind Advisory For Contra Costa: Gusts Up To 45-60 MPH Possible

"Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result."

MARTINEZ, CA — Martinez residents may be subject to power outages as gusty winds take aim at the East Bay and Contra Costa County, weather officials said.

A National Weather Service wind advisory was set to take effect at 9 p.m. Tuesday and continue through 9 p.m. Wednesday for East Bay interior valleys and the northern Diablo Range, including the cities of Concord, Antioch, Martinez, Livermore, Walnut Creek, Pleasanton, Pittsburg and San Ramon.

Northerly winds of 15-35 mph will be possible with gusts up to 45-60 mph. Isolated gusts in excess of 60 mph will be possible in the highest peaks and ridges across these areas, forecasters said.

"Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects," the weather service said. "Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. Use extra caution when driving, especially if operating a high-profile vehicle. Secure outdoor objects."

High Wind Warning

A separate high wind warning was issued at 3 a.m. Tuesday for the North Bay Mountains —including the cities of Angwin, Lagunitas-Forest Knolls and Woodacre — and continues through 9 a.m. Thursday.

North winds 20-35 mph with gusts 50-65 mph are expected, according to the National Weather Service. Peak wind gusts of 65-95 mph are possible on the leeward side of higher ridges and peaks, especially near traditionally windy locations such as Geyser Peak.

"Damaging winds will blow down trees and power lines," the weather service said. "Widespread power outages are expected. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles."

Residents throughout the Bay Area were encouraged to continue to monitor the latest forecasts.

"People should avoid being outside in forested areas and around trees and branches," the weather service said. "If possible, remain in the lower levels of your home during the windstorm, and avoid windows. Use caution if you must drive."
