Clear-Eyed Consultant Focuses on Fashionable Eyewear

Atherton resident Patti Lee-Hoffman, who also owns Triage Consulting Group, is focusing on creating elegant eyewear for women.

Patti Lee-Hoffman spun the eyeglasses carousel at the CVS/pharmacy in the Sharon Heights Shopping Center, looking for a pair of reading glasses.

The pickings were slim.

“I didn’t want to wear any of them,” Lee-Hoffman told Patch.  “They all looked like something my grandmother would wear,” she said.

She’d had perfect vision all her life; as much as she hated to admit it, she was starting to need glasses. She went home with a pair and a sense of dissatisfaction with her options.

In that moment, she decided to found her latest company Flutter Eyewear, which provides fashion-forward, custom frames for women in an online-only shopping environment.

Flutter helps women find the right pair of frames to complement their face shape. You can upload a photo of yourself to the site and it will suggest a shape that fits your face, based on data from multiple focus groups, and discussions with opticians and stylists.

Two years later, the company she founded and funded with her friend Gayle Haworth is growing in popularity among women in San Francisco Bay Area.

"We have a return rate of less than four percent," Lee-Hoffman proudly told Patch.

The materials used to make the glasses, metal and acetate, come from all over the world and are assembled in China. The hinges are sourced from France.  Many of the frames are named after the their favorite authors.

Frames start at $85 a pair. For more information, visit fluttereyewear.com.
