Menlo Park Fashion Boutique Hopes To Inspire Compassion in Women

From the playfully chic to the classically elegant, more than 60 women came to Gitane in Menlo Park on Thursday for a reception to introduce them to There With Care.  

There With Care is an organization that gives financial assistance to local families who are overwhelmed with medical bills. The goal that night was to raise awareness of the plight faced by families who are being helped by There With Care.

Michelle Chang, Executive Director of the Bay Area Chapter, said, “It was a real neighborhood event.”

“In today’s world, it’s a rare experience to find that old fashioned 'small town' experience where people gather together to support a segment of their community in need,” Chang said.  “Gitane provided that gathering place so that local woman could draw together to support local families.”

Founded in 2009, one of Gitane’s missions is to bring mothers and daughters together in an environment that features vibrant clothing with Parisian influences and locally-produced jewelry.

Malika Parker, owner of Gitane, feels that this is the way it should be. “Local businesses need to do what they can to reach out to areas in our own community that are in need,” Parker said.  “It’s all about family to me and to be able to help in any way I can to support such a vital organization that cares for families in need....of course, I do what I can!”

Gitane has two locations in Menlo Park and in Los Altos, California.
