Need To Share Your MRI With Another Doctor? Now There’s An App For That
A new startup based in Menlo Park called image32 shares medical images between doctors for real-time consultations.
image32, a new medical image sharing startup, launched Wednesday on Chestnut Street in Menlo Park.
The startup allows doctors to upload medical scans via an app and share them with other healthcare professionals for the purpose of enabling real-time consultations.
“Many doctors can view a study at the same time, with each doctor looking at the original images loaded into their browser,” said cofounder Dr. Alex Flint.
“The doctors then use interactive features like scrolling and window control plus synchronization of cursor position to have a more immediate exchange of information and a more fluid clinical conversation.”
Flint said image32 was also built so doctors and patients could quickly transport and share medical imaging studies between facilities.
“We hope that by making communication of imaging studies as easy as possible, we will help improve patient care and help reduce unnecessary repeat imaging studies,” Flint said. Up to 20% of studies in the U.S. may be unecessary redundancies, according to market research image32 shared with Patch.
Flint is part of a five-man team working on using technology to solve problems in the healthcare industry.
“My cofounder Dr. Alex Flint originally wanted to find a web-based, image sharing product that could be used for curbside consultations, patient transfers, and second opinions,” said Bob Pellican, cofounder and CEO of image32.

“When he didn’t find any products out there that he could try, buy, and easily use, we decided to build image32,” Pelican said.
Privacy concerns were arose and were addressed by the team. If a patient is uncomfortable with having their personal health information shared, image32 can strip the data that identifies them from the images.
