New Menlo Park Police Commander Comes On Board

The city hired Rich Struckman to head the patrol division of the department in Menlo Park. He will begin his assignment Tuesday.

MENLO PARK, CA -- The city welcomes Tuesday its new police department commander oversee the patrol division.

Rich Struckman grew up in San Francisco and represents a longtime resident of San Mateo County. His public service life began in 1984 when he joined the U.S. Army. Six years later, he went to work for the San Francisco Police Department, where he served the city for 27 years. There, he worked his way up the ranks with job titles including police officer, inspector, sergeant, lieutenant and captain. He retired from San Francisco in June 2017.

"We are very fortunate to have Rich join our team. His breadth of experience will benefit the police department, and he will be a great addition to our command staff," Chief Dave Bertini said.

Struckman earned his associate degree in liberal arts from City College of San Francisco, a bachelor's in law enforcement management from San Francisco State University and a master's in organizational leadership from St. Mary's College of California.

The police veteran enjoys spending time with his family, walking his dog, hiking and biking on the San Mateo County coast during his leisure hours.
