Menlo Park Measure CC Leads On Election Night

A measure to raise the Menlo Park's tax rate on short-term lodging by 3.5 percent was well ahead in the polls on election night.

MENLO PARK, CA — Did Menlo Park voters approve Measure CC to increase the city's transient occupancy tax?

Often called a hotel tax, TOTs are levied on people staying in hotels, short-term rentals, and other forms of lodging for 30 days or less. Menlo Park's current hotel tax rate is 12 percent. Measure CC sought to raise the tax by 2 percent on Jan. 1, and by another 1.5 percent the following year.

The polls closed across Menlo Park and the state of California at 8 p.m., with the possible exception of Vote Centers that have lines.

Requiring only a simple majority to pass, more than 84 percent of voters approved Measure CC, according to tallies updated at 10 p.m. Tuesday evening's preliminary results reflect ballots received on or before Friday and do account for Vote Center ballots or those mailed or left in drop boxes after Friday.
