FREMONT, CA — A man killed by an alleged reckless driver in Fremont last weekend has been identified as 39-year-old Abraham Fadel El-Zein, according to the Alameda County Coroner's Bureau.

El-Zein was allegedly hit Saturday by Antwone Spruill, who police said ran a red light at the intersection of Osgood Road and South Grimmer Boulevard, collided with another vehicle and then careened onto the sidewalk, where El-Zein was walking.

At the time, Spruill, 28, was allegedly fleeing from Fremont police officers who had tried to pull him over just after 4 p.m. for speeding and driving recklessly in the area of Osgood Road south of Auto Mall Parkway, according to police.

The officers decided not chase Spruill in the interest of public safety, according to police, and a short time later he was allegedly involved in the collision that led to El-Zein's death.
