Stanford Project In Menlo Park Moves Forward

Santa Clara County supervisors rejected the idea that the new building would make traffic worse in Menlo Park.

MENLO PARK, CA -- Stanford's proposed Center for Academic Medicine building will move forward in Menlo Park despite efforts by the mayor to halt the project. The Almanac reported the Santa Clara County supervisors rejected a city appeal.

"Menlo Park Mayor Peter Ohtaki and Assistant Public Works Director Nikki Nagaya traveled to San Jose to plead the city's case before the supervisors on the morning of Jan. 23, asking the county to require Stanford to make some commitment to mitigate the traffic the project will create," the news site reported.

The city "argued that the traffic analysis didn't fully take into account current and cumulative future traffic conditions the city requested, and asked for further study," the Almanac reported.

The four-story 170,000 square-foot building will "provide a consolidated office and administrative environment for several Stanford Medicine departments currently located throughout the Stanford Medicine campus," according to the university.

The university said the building will "house clinical faculty, computational researchers and departmental administration and leadership."
