Retirement Community Burglary Suspect Arrested For Mail Theft In San Mateo County: Police

Staff found the suspect inside a home at a local retirement community, police said.

MILLBRAE, CA — Police said they arrested a 19-year-old man Friday after he broke into a retirement community in Millbrae and stole personal items.

At around 1 a.m. on Friday, San Mateo County Sheriff's deputies said they responded to a report of a suspicious person, later identified as Ronald Alfaro Diaz , 19, of San Mateo, at a retirement community on the 200 block of Chadbourne Avenue in Millbrae.

The retirement community staff said they found Diaz inside a home, at which point he fled on foot. One resident reported their cellphone had been stolen, police said.

Officers said the located Diaz a few blocks away and found the cellphone and a stolen package.

Police said they arrested Diaz and booked him into the Maguire Correctional Facility for residential burglary and mail theft.

"I am proud of the work our deputies do on a daily basis to keep our Millbrae community safe,” said Sheriff Christina Corpus. “I am especially grateful for their swift response in locating a suspect who threatened the safety of our vulnerable residents.”
