2 Teens Arrested For Armed Robbery In Marin County Social Media Sale: Police

Three people were robbed at gunpoint after meeting up with buyers they found on social media, police said.

MARIN CITY, CA — Two teens were arrested Wednesday after they robbed three people at gunpoint they met to buy items sold on social media in Marin City last month, the sheriff's office announced.

Marin County Sheriff's Office deputies said at around 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 16, three people — two adults and one juvenile — went to the 600 block of Drake Avenue to sell clothing items to buyers they had met through social media. When they arrived, the sellers were held up at gunpoint by two male suspects, police said.

During the robbery, police said one of the suspects fired a shot into the air, seemingly to deter the victims from trying to recover their stolen property.

Both suspects were booked into the Marin County Juvenile Hall.

Due to their age, their names will not be released, police said.

Deputies said there has been an increase in robberies related to the growing trend of reselling items on social media and advised the public to exercise caution when arranging in-person transactions.
