Almonte Home Draws Raves for Eco Design

"One-of-a-kind, symmetrical residence" on Cleveland Ave. features three octagons sitting on a rectangle.

There's no shortage of attention-grabbing homes tucked into the hillsides in and around Mill Valley. Few of them, if any, feature three octagons on top of a rectangle built into a hillside.

Architect Bill Cullen's home on Cleveland Ave. in Almonte was the centerpiece feature in the San Francisco Chronicle's Sunday real estate section. Inspired by his love for geometry, Cullen created a one-of-a-kind, symmetrical residence. The 2,200-plus-square-foot house with nearly 3,000 square feet of living space, as well as three major roof terraces, each of which contains 12 inches of topsoil for flower and vegetable gardens.
