Cars Stolen With Keys Inside, $4,000 Jewelry Theft and a Little Bongo Madness

This week's roundup of police activities includes some reckless driving and vandalism.

July 2

1:59 p.m. – A 1987 Dodge Ram truck parked on Lomita Drive near Edna Maguire Elementary School was stolen sometime between Friday and one hour ago, according to its owner. The keys were left in the truck.

3:55 p.m. – Police received a report of a stolen vehicle from Azalea and Vasco drives, where the car was parked, with the windows down and the keys inside. Police later recovered the vehicle and secured it at the scene.

4:54 p.m. – A resident reported that someone stole the FasTrak sensor from her car, which was parked on Forrest St. and Presidio Ave. The owner said the car was locked but there was no sign of forced entry.

8:10 p.m. – A resident of Magdalena Court filed a grand theft report with police, saying that she has been having construction done at her home and recently found that two of her rings, valued at $4,000, were missing. The resident said she wasn’t certain if the rings had been misplaced or stolen.

July 3

11:57 p.m. – A resident of Edgewood Ave. reported that his neighbor was playing the bongos and he wanted him to quiet down. Police went to the area and did not hear any percussion.

July 4

7:37 a.m. – Police received a report that someone saw five cars in the Piatti restaurant parking lot had their windows smashed.

5:25 p.m. – A young white woman was reportedly driving reckless in the area of Edgewood and Marion avenues in a white Ford, flashing high beam headlights at other drivers.

July 5

3:05 p.m. – A resident of Midhill Dr. reported that someone stole her iPhone 5 on July 3 while she was at a salon in Ketchum, Idaho.

July 8

7:51 a.m. – A resident of the 300 block of Eldridge Ave. reported that someone smashed the driver’s side mirror of his red 2008 Ford F150 pickup truck, noting that he had a dispute with a construction crew in the area in recent days.
