Check Worth $15k Stolen From This Bay Area County's Office Of Education: Police

The check was stolen from the mail and deposited into an unknown bank account in San Francisco.

MARIN COUNTY, CA — A 20-year-old man from Daly City deposited a stolen Marin County Office of Education Account check worth over $15,000, police announced on Monday.

On June 7, the Marin County Treasurer's Office reported the check was stolen from the mail and that it was deposited into an unknown bank account at a Chase Bank in San Francisco.

Police said through their investigation they identified Rhod Robles, 20, of Daly City, as the primary suspect who had deposited the check.

Chase Bank quickly flagged the check as fraudulent and the treasurer's officer recouped the full amount. Robles was unable to withdraw any of the funds before they were removed from the account, police said.

On Thursday, Marin County detectives searched Robles's home in Daly City where they said they recovered evidence from the case.

Robles was booked into the Marin County Jail on several theft and fraud related charges, police said.
