Editor's Notebook: Patch Celebrates its 100th Site Launch

Hyper-local news sites in Mill Valley and beyond reach triple digits and vow to become hubs of local news and dialogue.

We're still the new kid on your block here in Mill Valley, but since Patch launched its first sites in New Jersey 18 months ago, we've come a long way.

Patch launched its 100th site today, this time in Morristown, N.J., and we plan on keeping our head down to bring you and communities all over the coverage you deserve.

Since AOL acquired Patch in June 2009, the company has invested $50 million in Patch, and now operates hyper-local Patch sites in nine states. In that time, Patch sites have collectively produced more than 55,000 articles and nearly one million photos.

When Mill Valley Patch launched June 29, we profiled Kiddo! and an emerging Tam High star helped some Ring Mountain art students show off their rock posters, marked the return of the Deuce. Since then, we've leapt head-first into head lice, composting, fire safety, and the impact of the new Whole Foods Market on its neighbors. We've taken a look at the police department's new high-tech license plate reader, the local guy vying for the top prize on CBS' Survivor: Nicaragua, an over-the-top party pad in the woods near Horse Hill and the charmed career of Huey Lewis. We've even suggested the 10 best albums with direct ties to Mill Valley.

There's plenty more to do. We at Mill Valley Patch know we have our work cut out for us to garner your attention and earn your trust, so we'll just keep our heads down and keep working hard to cover the town across the board, from City Hall and cops and fire to business and restaurants and sports and everything in between.
