Egging the Econoline, Boisterous Video Gaming and Another Burst of Bike Thefts

This week's roundup of police activities includes a number of noise complaints and reckless driving.

May 21
1:43 p.m. – A resident of the 300 block of Sycamore Ave. just realized that someone had set up a Verizon account in her name last July when she received a collection notice in the mail from the company.

5 p.m. – The owner of a brown Ford Econoline van called police to report that someone had egged the van and marked it with red tags. The resident believed that a neighbor who had reported the van abandoned was responsible for the vandalism. Police determined that there was no damage to the van and provided advice to the van owner regarding the saga.

10:57 p.m. – Police arrested a man on suspicion of assault and battery at the 2 a.m. Club. 

May 22
12:01 a.m. – A resident of an apartment complex in the 600 block of Miller Ave. reported that a male neighbor was playing video games at a very loud volume at all hours of the night. The resident told police that she’s already spoken to the manager of the complex but that the impolite video game player was the manager’s grandson. Police spoke to the manager and advised her to tell her grandson to keep the noise down.

May 23
7:15 a.m. – Someone stole a $3,000 white and blue Specialized road bike from inside a locked car in the 50 block of Sycamore Ave., according to a report. The thief smashed the car’s rear window to get to the bike.

8:15 a.m. – A white man in his 50s drove too fast and recklessly through the student drop-off area Tam High, yelling at the school staff in the area and bumping his car into a staffer in the process. The staff requested that police take no further action on the incident.

11:03 a.m. – The driver of a green Jeep drove recklessly into the Arco gas station on Redwood Hwy., bumping into the elbow of another patron pumping gas in the process.

10:05 p.m. – A resident of the 200 block of East Blithedale Ave. complained to police about people being loud outside. Police found a small gathering of adults in the backyard of a neighbor’s house and advised them to keep it down.

May 24
8:02 p.m. – A $1,000 Cannondale road bike was reported stolen from the bike rack outside the Safeway at 1 Camino Alto. The bike was locked on the rack but the lock was cut, according to the report.

May 25
7:46 a.m. – Police received a report that someone driving a black Ferrari with paper license plates was passing other cars across the double yellow lines on Edgewood and Molino avenues. Police were unable to locate the reckless driver.

6:02 p.m. – A resident of the 300 block of Throckmorton Ave. reported that someone was using a generator or power washer in the area. Police checked the area to no avail.  

8:47 p.m. – A resident went to the police station to complain that she was being locked out of her Facebook account “over a situation involving a nonprofit.”  

9:40 p.m. – A resident of the 200 block of Camino Alto Court reported that his friend drank too much vodka, accused him of stealing his own bottle and then struck him a couple of times. The man did not want to pursue charges.

10:43 p.m. – A gray Mercedes wagon was being driven recklessly down East Blithedale Ave. at Camino Alto, nearly hitting a group of kids, according to a report.

May 26
1:37 p.m. – A resident of Miller Ave. reported that someone using her account to buy $500 in a Starbucks cards.

7:15 p.m. – A $4,000 bike was stolen from outside the Balboa Café with the cable lock being cut sometime between 5:30 p.m. and 7 p.m.

May 27
9:07 a.m. – A resident of Cornelia Ave. reported that a number of items, including some floor mats and $20, were stolen out of her unlocked white Subaru Impreza.

10:17 a.m. – A $200 black beach cruiser bike was stolen from outside the Safeway at 1 Camino Alto, and a witness saw a man cut the lock and leave the scene. Police were unable to find the bike thief.
