Evacuation Drill in Panoramic & Edgewood Areas Planned for May 4

Residents in those neighborhoods are asked to participate in a voluntary evacuation drill next Saturday morning to either the Marin County Fire Department's Throckmorton Fire Station, or Old Mill School.

Residents in the Panoramic and Edgewood neighborhoods are being asked by the Mill Valley Fire Department to participate in a voluntary evacuation drill the morning of Saturday, May 4.

Around 9 a.m. residents will hear an evacuation siren and will receive a Telephone Emergency Notification System (TENS) alert. You can sign up here if you haven't already.

Residents are then asked to walk, bike or drive to the Marin County Fire Department’s Throckmorton Fire Station, or Old Mill School, and visit a check-in station to fill out a brief survey. The check in at Old Mill is at the playground, and there’s limited parking available behind the school.

Local agencies - including Red Cross, Marin Humane Society, Whistlestop, Marin Medical Reserve Corps., Emergency Preparedness Commission and the Salvation Army - will also be on hand for demonstrations and to provide emergency preparedness information.

The drill is meant to assess issues that might come in the event of an actual disaster, such as a wild fire on Mt. Tam, according to the Mill Valley Fire Department. It not only gives families an opportunity to practice an evacuation, but helps public safety officials identify which routes are used and how long it takes to reach a check-in area, the department said.
