Firefighters Battle Marin Waste Transfer Station Blaze

SAN RAFAEL, CA — Firefighters Sunday night battled a fire at a Marin waste transfer station, the San Rafael Fire Department said on the agency’s Twitter page.
The SRFD first reported a debris fire at Marin Sanitary in the 1000 block of Anderson Drive at 9:16 p.m.
The agency appeared to have gained the upper hand around an hour later.

The SRFD said in a 9:13 p.m. post that Marin Sanitary crews were on the scene assisting firefighters “with a skip loader & bulldozer to help pull the massive pile apart so the fire can be fully extinguished.”
“Thank you Marin Sanitary staff for your assistance!” the agency said in a subsequent tweet.

The blaze was fully extinguished as of Monday morning, San Rafael Fire Department Deputy Chief Robert Sinnott told The Marin Independent Journal.
The cause of the blaze was likely someone improperly disposing a hazardous material such as lithium batteries, Sinnott told the news outlet.
