Have You Spotted Coyotes Recently?

To the surprise of many, at least three coyote puppies were recently born in Golden Gate Park in San Francisco. Similar sightings are much more common here in Mill Valley and our surroundings. Have you spotted any lately?

It's no surprise to residents of the 94941 when they hear coyotes at night or see them in the open space around Mount Tam.

But last week's San Francisco Chronicle story about the revelation that at least three coyote puppies were recently born in Golden Gate Park reminded us of photographer right in his backyard 10 months ago.

"It is important that people recognize that coyotes are part of our ecosystem and that they have intrinsic value and ecological value," Camilla Fox, the executive director of Project Coyote, a Larkspur nonprofit that consults with cities, ranchers and other groups on ways to live with coyotes without resorting to bullets, traps and poison, told the Chronicle.
