MARIN COUNTY, CA — Marin firefighters enlisted help from the Sonoma County Sheriff's Office Sunday night to rescue a man who fell from a cliff in the Golden Gate National Recreation Area.

According to the sheriff's office, the Southern Marin Fire District requested a helicopter around 7:40 p.m. to help reach a man clinging to a gravel rock face. Officials estimated the man was approximately 50 to 60 feet down from a trail in the Alexander Battery area.

An aircrew aboard the Henry-1 helicopter arrived over the scene and spotted the man using a thermal camera before landing nearby to prepare for a long-line rescue. A tactical flight officer reached the man and put him in a rescue device, allowing rescuers to fly him to the top of the cliff for medical evaluation.
