Marin County Sets Truth Act Virtual Forum For Dec. 13
The discussion will focus on access provided to federal immigration authorities.
MILL VALLEY, CA — Marin County residents are invited to participate in an online community forum about the TRUTH Act, a California law that addresses civil immigration violation issues and the access local governments may provide to federal immigration authorities, Marin County announced in a news release.
The online forum scheduled for 5 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 13, will be livestreamed online on both the Marin County website and on the Community Media Center of Marin (CMCM) webpage. Comcast subscribers will be able to watch the session live on Channel 27.
Spanish translation services will be available, the news release said.

To listen to the forum in Spanish, or to give public comment, join the meeting using Zoom. Details about joining through the Zoom format are on the Marin County Board of Supervisors’ webpage, which can be translated into Spanish through the “select language” choice at the top of the page, the news release said.
Although the County government is hosting the meeting and Board President Katie Rice will serve as moderator, the Marin County Board of Supervisors will take no action on the matter, the news release said.

“At the forum, the Marin County Sheriff's Office plans to share data it maintains regarding the number and demographic characteristics of individuals to whom the agency has provided any ICE access for 2021 and for 2022 through November 30,” the release said.
According to the county, Marin County Sheriff’s Department’s policies were modified in 2017 to accommodate provisions set forth in the bill which was signed into law in 2016 by former Governor Jerry Brown.
“Staff no longer inquires about immigration status when carrying out their duties; have stopped responding to ICE regarding release dates for low-level offenses; and, as of August 15, 2020, ICE is no longer allowed in in the secure part of the jail facility. As a result, Sheriff’s staff no longer track ICE arrests,” the county said.
Those with disabilities can request accommodation by calling (415) 473-6358 (voice), CA Relay 711, or by sending an email to digitalaccess@marincounty.org at least five business days in advance of the event.
"The county will do its best to fulfill requests received with less than five business days’ notice. Copies of documents are available in alternative formats, upon request," the county said.
