Bay Area Road Closed In City’s Downtown For Upcoming Race
The road will be shut down for the 114th annual Dipsea Race.

MILL VALLEY, CA — The Dipsea Race will return to Mill Valley and will force road closures downtown June 8.
The 114th annual Dipsea Race will start at 8 a.m. on June 8 in Downtown Mill Valley, according to the race’s official website.
Roads will be closed 7-11 a.m. The streets that will be shut down are Throckmorton Avenue from E. Blithedale Avenue to Cascade Drive; Bernard Street, Madrona Street, Olive Street, and Old Mill Street will be closed to through traffic; Southbound Cascade Drive will be closed at Molino Avenue; and Northbound Molino Avenue will be closed at Cascade Drive, police said.

Starting at 5 a.m. June 8, the Mill Valley Police Department will enforce parking restrictions along Lovell Avenue, Throckmorton Avenue, Miller Avenue and the parking lot of The Depot.
There will be detours created to avoid the closed roads including, Lovell Avenue will become a two-way street; outbound traffic from Cascade Drive, Lovell Avenue, and Throckmorton Avenue will be directed around Old Mill Elementary onto Lovell Avenue; inbound traffic on E. Blithedale Avenue will continue onto Gardner Street, Corte Madera to Lovell Avenue; and Inbound traffic on Miller Avenue will take Sunnyside Avenue to E. Blithedale Avenue and follow the preceding detour, police said.

According to the Dipsea Race website, the first run took place in 1905 on the Dipsea Trail, and is the oldest trail race in the U.S. It is a 7.4 mile course and is run every year on the second Sunday in June. The course starts at Mill Valley and ends at Stinson Beach.
