Mill Valley Strike Team Returns from NoCal Fires

Mill Valley had a relatively quiet August is in the midst of fire season.

Nevertheless, Mill Valley firefighters weren’t in the thick of some of the biggest fires in the country over the past six weeks.

Firefighters from Mill Valley and all over Marin assisted on the front lines in massive wildfires in August. In each case, Mill Valley’s crew consisted of four firefighters on an engine and a battalion chief.
The fires they battled included:

• The Rush Fire, a blaze in eastern Lassen County near Susanville that stretched across the Nevada border. The blaze was contained in late August after burning more than 315,00 acres.
• The Ponderosa wildfire, which burned more than 27,000 acres, threatened 3,000 homes and sent thousands of rural Shasta and Tehama county residents fleeing to safer ground.
• The Wye Fire, which burned more than 3,000 acres near the Lake County town of Spring Valley in August.
