New Rec Director to Discuss Boyle Park Tennis Courts Tonight

, has the Boyle Park Tennis Courts on her mind.

In a meeting tonight, she hopes to gather together tennis enthusiasts to discuss potential improvements to the aging courts. The public is invited to sit down with both her and Parks Superintendent Rick Misuraca Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. at the Mill Valley Community Center.

“I know the tennis community has been hard at work raising monies toward this renovation and I know we will end up with a spectacular result for tennis play!” Rogers said in the letter.

Since starting in July, she said she’s received letters from the community about the issue.

In June the City Council agreed to move forward on fixing multiple cracks and drainage issues in the nearly 80-year-old public tennis courts at Boyle park, but first wants to allocate $50,000 to develop a Boyle Park master plan and $77,000 for feasibility study of the tennis court renovations.

Members of the Boyle Park Renovation campaign have been raising money for nearly four years to help pay for a renovation, and expressed concerns about the time it would take for such a plan to be developed and implemented. They also urged the City Council to put the $77,000  in donations toward the actual physical renovation, and not use it for studies.

Estimates for improving the tennis courts have varied, with the renovation campaign saying it will take $350,000, and the city putting the cost closer to nearly twice that amount at $650,000.

Rogers said she’s looking forward to her new role, and engaging the community on this issue.

“I also wanted to let you all know how excited I am to be here to work with you all on the renovation of our Boyle Park Tennis Courts,” she said.
