Not Much of a Ballplayer, but Lots of Heart

San Fancisco Giants closer Brian Wilson is out for the season, so I'm warming up my arm. Do you think the 2010 World Series champs can use a 40-year-old, out-of-shape guy with a glass shoulder?

Hmmmm, well, maybe I can be a bat boy.

In the meantime, I'll take the few diamond skills I have to Hill Field in Novato, next to the , for a Relay for Life softball game on April 21, from 4-7 p.m. Feel free to stop by and cheer us on.

Sure, we're looking to get support and spread information about cancer and the Relay for Life, but we're also out there for a good time and I hope you'll join us.

It's going to be a busy day after helping folks plant free seeds at the Marin Country Mart farmers market on Saturday, but it's worth it.

Joining was one of the most memorable days I've ever enjoyed. We walked the track in fun outfits, danced to the music and encouraged each other. Tracy and I even received a special surprise — a delicious cake the day before our wedding.

I'm looking forward to another great Relay event this year, set for July 28 at Novato's .

This is a chance to remember those we've lost and to keep their memories alive, but it's more than that. This is also a chance to celebrate life and to honor our friends and loved ones who support us.

There are opportunities in every community to raise funds for charities. It doesn't have to take a lot of time or money. It just takes a lot of love.
