Marin Dance Theatre is pleased to announce the Sarah Oppenheimer Young Dancer's Scholarship Award which has been established in her memory by her family, John, Julie and Liza Oppenheimer.
Sarah was a classically trained professional ballerina. She began her formal training at the Washington School of Ballet near her childhood home in Alexandria, VA. She then trained at the School of the American Ballet in New York. Her passion for ballet was central in her life. Her natural born talent was exceptional. Her interpretation and articulation in movement was brilliant. She lit up any and all stages including The Kennedy Center, The Lyric Opera in Chicago, and the War Memorial in San Francisco. Her career included performances with the San Francisco Dance Theatre, SF Opera, Smuin Ballets, and many guest performances around the country.

Her love of ballet extended into her life in Mill Valley, where she was a devoted wife and mother and where she shared her love of dance by mentoring many young dance students.
Sarah loved teaching ballet with all her heart, and the Marin Dance Theatre is pleased to carry on its tradition of honoring and providing financial support to students who show great promise and are also in need of financial help.

Having known Sarah myself, this idea of celebrating and remembering her here in our school is personally so special to me. Sarah truly had such a passion for dance and loved children. What a beautiful idea to create a scholarship in her name to help a young dancer be able to pursue their dream.
It will be a treasured gift to offer one of our students each year. Thank you for your support of this scholarship. I hope you will be able to visit our school or come to one of our performances.
