MARIN COUNTY, CA — There will be a prescribed burn for up to 64 acres Thursday in Marin County to manage vegetation in hopes to prevent the spread of a wildfire.

The Marin County Fire Department will manage the prescribed burn Thursday near Bon Tempe Lake on Mount Tamalpais.

The MCFD will coordinate with Marin Water, which manages watershed lands where the burn will occur. The burn is planned for the northern side of Bon Tempe lake adjacent to a portion of Sky Oaks Road and Bon Tempe Road, officials said.

Marin County officials are asking the community to hold back on calling 911 to report smoke in the area.

On July 1, there was a prescribed burn treatment for around 40 acres just east of the same area.

The Bon Tempe parking lot will be closed and so will a portion of Bon Tempe Road.

Sky Oaks Road will remain open but visitors may experience a short delay due to smoke and temporary lane closures.

All of the Sunnyside Trail and Bon Tempe Dam Trail will be closed.

"The date and size of the planned burn activity are tentative, as all burn operations are dependent on favorable weather, fuel conditions, and air quality to ensure safe execution and minimize smoke impacts on the surrounding communities," Marin County officials said.
