MARIN COUNTY, CA — A prescribed burn to reduce wildfire fuels on Mount Tamalpais and the surrounding watershed has been postponed due to weather conditions, according to county officials. A fire weather watch is due to take effect Thursday morning.

The operation was initially scheduled to begin as early as Tuesday, but officials on Monday said the new date would likely be sometime next week.

The Marin County Fire Department will work with California State Parks and Marin Water to manage the fire operation, supported by the state's Forest Health Program. Prescribed burns are part of a broader approach to managing fire fuels and maintaining an ecologically healthy forest and watershed.

The upcoming burn will follow the rules outlined by the Bay Area Air Quality Management District, but neighbors may notice smoke coming from the area, and officials ask community members to refrain from calling 911.

The county Office of Emergency Management will share more specifics on the updated timing of the fire in the coming days.
