Tam High Deemed Safe After Bomb Threat (UPDATED)

Shelter orders were issued for the surrounding area, police said.

MILL VALLEY, CA — Tamalpais High School in Mill Valley has been deemed safe after a bomb threat called into the campus led to evacuations and shelter-in-place orders in the area near the school, school officials said.

The threat was called in at about 9:30 a.m. at the school at 700 Miller Ave. and school administrators contacted Mill Valley police and evacuated all students to the football field on campus, according to a letter sent by principal J.C. Farr to the school community.

A reunification center has been set up at the Mill Valley Community Center at 180 Camino Alto where parents and guardians are asked to pick up their student.

People are asked to not go to the Tamalpais High campus where authorities were still investigating as of midday Wednesday, Farr wrote.

Police said residents in the area surrounding the school were also asked to shelter in place as a result of the threat. No other details about the threat were immediately available.

"The Tam High campus is closed to the public. We request you stay out of the area and residents in the area should continue to shelter in place," the Mill Valley Police Department said in an alert to the public at 10:24 a.m.

"Students should not be returning to campus to collect any belongings or vehicles."

Farr confirmed the threat in a letter to parents and guardians Wednesday morning.

“This morning at approximately 9:30am, a bomb threat was called in to Tam High. Following our safety protocol, school administration immediately contacted Mill Valley Police and safely evacuated all students to the football field,” the letter said.

“In the interest of safety, students will be released immediately, and classes will be canceled for the day while law enforcement sweeps and secures the campus.”

A reunification center was set up at the Mill Valley Community Center (180 Camino Alto, Mill Valley).

“Please proceed to the Mill Valley Community Center to pick up your student, unless you have arranged for them to transport themself home.”

No additional information was immediately available.
