These 7 Bay Area Cities Among America's 30 Safest And Richest: Ranking

North Bay, South Bay, Peninsula and East Bay — all have communities on the list.

CALIFORNIA — Seven of America’s 30 safest and richest cities are in the Bay Area, according to a recent analysis by personal finance website GOBankingRates.

To determine the ranking, GOBankingRates assessed data points including population, average household income, cost of living indexes and crime rates.

California and Massachusetts tied for most cities on the list, with seven each. New Jersey had six. All of the Northern California communities in the ranking had relatively small populations.

Below is a list of the Golden State cities that made the cut and some key statistics:

No. 10 — Ross

  • Average household income: $430,034
  • Violent crime rate per 1,000 people: zero
  • Property crime rate per 1,000 people: 6.9

No. 20 — Mill Valley

  • Average income: $303,623
  • Violent crime rate: 0.64
  • Property crime rate: 11.12

No. 23 — Lafayette

  • Average income: $312,233
  • Violent crime rate: 1
  • Property crime rate: 12.62

No. 25 — Cupertino

  • Average income: $283,063
  • Violent crime rate: 1.16
  • Property crime rate: 13.31

No. 27 — Los Altos

  • Average income: $400,817
  • Violent crime rate: 0.67
  • Property crime rate: 12.06

No. 28 — Kensington

  • Average income: $253,171
  • Violent crime rate: 0.4
  • Property crime rate: 21.48

No. 30 — Los Gatos

  • Average income: $305,653
  • Violent crime rate: 1.71
  • Property crime rate: 18.27

No. 1 on the nationwide ranking was Western Springs, Illinois, which has an average household income of $276,402, a violent crime rate of zero and a property crime rate of 3.72. Kenilworth, Illinois, came in at No. 2, and Lexington, Massachusetts, was No. 3.
