Update: Truck Ricocheted Across Highway 101 in Morning Three-Car Collision

A pickup truck driven by a Novato resident was rear-ended, jettisoned across multiple lanes where it collided with the concrete divider, and then ricocheted into a 2007 Honda Civic. Only minor injuries reported.

In a three-car collision on U.S. Highway 101, a Novato resident driving a 1993 Nissan Pickup ricocheted across multiple lanes of traffic after being rear ended by the SR-131 off ramp, according to the California Highway Patrol Officer Eric Hohmeister.

At about 8:40 a.m. George Matthews, 55, was driving his pickup truck in lane five, and slowed down as traffic approached the exit. Directly behind him, 43-year-old David Wreden, also of Novato, was driving a 2008 Ford Ranger at 35-40 miles per hour and wasn't able to stop in time.

Just south of Casa Buena Drive, he rear-ended Matthews, jettisoning the pickup truck across southbound lanes where it collided with the concrete divider and then ricocheted into a 2007 Honda Civic that was traveling at about 55-60 miles per hour in lane 2. All vehicles sustained major damage.

Matthews was transported to Marin General Hospital for neck pain by Marin County Fire Paramedics. Neither Wreden nor the driver of the Honda, 24-year-old Jose Esaul Magana-Diaz of Sacramento, were injured.

Lanes 3 and 4 of US-101 were closed until about 9:30 a.m. as paramedics and tow trucks clearned the scene.
