Whoooosh...Pro Cyclists Whiz Through Marin in Tour of California Finale

Hundreds of spectators gathered throughout southern and West Marin Sunday for a brief glimpse – and it was quite brief – of some of the best professional bike racers in the world, who blasted through Marin on their way to the finish line in Santa Rosa during the eighth and final stage of the Amgen Tour of California.

The popular gathering spots for fans included Tam Junction, where dozens lined up to see the riders head up the slopes of Mount Tam on their way through West Marin on Hwy. 1, as well Olema and Point Reyes Station. The latter location featured a mid-race sprint, won by Thomas De Gendt of the Vacansoleil-DCM Pro Cycling Team.

Peter Sagan of the Cannondale Pro Cycling won the stage, while American Tejay Van Garderen of BMC Cycling won the overal title, finishing the nearly 750-mile race from Escondido to the Santa Rosa nearly two minutes ahead of Australian Michael Rogers. Click here for all the results.
