Woman Injured in Bizarre Rollover on Throckmorton

A 79-year-old woman was injured Monday afternoon when her green Honda Accord struck a parked car and careened into a tailspin that flipped the Honda onto its roof in the middle of Throckmorton Ave., according to police.

The driver, Marina Perez of San Bruno, was heading east on the 400 block of Throckmorton towards the  at around 3 p.m. when the front right wheel of the Accord apparently "hooked into" the back left wheel of a parked car on the right, said Cpl. Ian Maddison. 

The collision whipped the Honda into a tailspin and sent it rolling over onto its roof, Maddison added.

"The physics of it just worked out that the back of her car swung all the way around," Maddison said.

Police and fire crews were called to the scene and extricated the woman from the Honda. The parked car was unoccupied at the time, Maddison said.

Perez sustained minor injuries to her upper torso and lower back, as well as a small laceration on her right hand. She was transported to Marin General Hospital. Both vehicles were towed from the scene.

Perez told police that she was following a local resident who agreed to show her how to get out of town after she'd become lost in the neighborhood. Perez said she "hit something" in the street that caused her vehicle to go to the right before she collided with the other car at approximately 20mph.

Maddison said there was no evidence to support the driver's claim that she hit something else in the street before the collision. He also said drugs or alcohol did not play a role in the incident.
