Woodworker Shows Off Wares in SF
Longtime Mill Valley craftsman exhibits work at American Craft Council Show this weekend.
After years of making Hollywood movie sets, David Fitch is solely focusing on making eye-popping furniture now, and is exhibiting some of his work this weekend in San Francisco.
Fitch, a longtime Mill Valley woodworker who recently relocated to Maui, is showing off four pieces of furniture at the American Craft Council Show in San Francisco. He made a name for himself in the woodworking world by building sets for a host of feature films and television shows, including Zoolander, Charlie's Angels and The O.C.
Fitch, 40, is a third-generation craftsman, having learned at a young age from his father, who did the same from his dad.

"My dad started me with my own work bench when I was 10," Fitch said. "I've been playing with wood for most of my life."
Fitch creates furniture that marries the unique with the functional, like a pair of mahogany side tables shaped like African drums

"It's amazing what you can do with veneer work and bring out the complementing and constrasting grain," Fitch said.
