MAMMOTH LAKES, CA -- A popular California ski resort was closed Saturday following an avalanche that buried three people. Mammoth Mountain said it closed after an avalanche swept through the area around 10:15 a.m.
Officials said on Twitter that "avalanche protocols were initiated immediately."
"Three individuals were partially buried in the avalanche and were able to free themselves," officials said. "Lift operations at Mammoth will be halted for the remainder of the day to focus full efforts on the site."
