City Home To Auto Burglary Surge
Thieves are targeting the parking lots of four Milpitas shopping centers, which have been notified by police.
MILPITAS, CA -- The city has seen a rash in auto burglaries, numbering 145 this year already.
Motorists experienced 88 auto burglaries in January alone, making it the highest for auto burglaries in the past year. In February, there were 57 reported auto burglaries.
If the current trend continues, the projected total will easily beat last year’s total.

The majority of these auto burglaries have occurred in the parking lots of retail shopping centers.
The shopping centers which have been primarily affected are: Ulfert’s Center, Milpitas Square, McCarthy Ranch, and the Great Mall of the Bay Area.

In an effort to the reduce the number of auto burglaries, the Milpitas Police Department has deployed personnel at the shopping centers, along with meeting with property management and contracted security services of affected shopping centers to warn of the surge in crimes.
